Weekly Assignment #3 New Due Date!

Hey everyone!

Just a reminder that weekly assignment #3 is coming up. Here's what you have to do:

Make character designs for three heroes and three villains each with their own story.

Fun eh? We get to be creative and have some fun with this. Perhaps even use color? And interpret heroes and villains however you'd like, they do not necessarily have to be what we normally think heroes and villains are like. And with the story, it does not need to be a huge epic story. It could just be a sentence, short and sweet.

Anyways, I am going to be out of town until Sunday, so I will not be uploading until then. So to make things fair, for this week the due date will be MIDNIGHT SUNDAY. Of course, you can totally upload your heroes and villains before that.

Hope you all are having a fabulous summer so far and if you haven't been doing these assignments, just please at least upload something for us to see what you are working on!

Weekly Assignment #2 Due!

It's Thursday weeks means another weekly assignment is due. This time we needed to draw 10 people from life....not too hard considering how much we all had to draw on a weekly basis for Figure and Motion. So let's see your beautiful drawings from life! Hopefully they all look a bit better than mine turned out!

Change for Weekly Assignment #2 and next week's assignment

So Assignment #2 was due yesterday but after talking about it, Steph and I decided that instead, just bring back the flipbook you made to school next semester. We decided this because with a video camera, it could loose clarity of your flipbook (especially if you used a lighter material) and by scanning each image in, timing could be messed up a bit. So make one sometime this summer (or if you hate flipbooks, try to animate something this summer for practice) and then bring it back next semester.

REMINDER: Next's week assignment: draw 10(or more) people. Due next Thursday at midnight.

A Great Blog to Check Out

Hey everyone!

I accidentally stumbled upon this great blog today:

http://one1more2time3.wordpress.com/

It's a blog by Hans Bacher, an artist who's been working in the animation industry at many notable studios and has worked on many classic animated films(if you're curious....). The blog has some of his own artwork and as well he has posted a bunch of concept art, layout design, photos ect. of a ton of old movies, especially Disney movies. Definitely worth your time to check out or at least bookmark to look at later.

Hope you all are having a great summer! Can't wait to see what you guys upload this week!

Weekly Assignment #1

Draw 10 figures from life.  If you have to you can use pictures.  Do basically whatever interests you.  Heres some examples, but try to be a little more detailed than these if possible.  These will be due next Thursday at Midnight.  So try to get them done BEFORE then..

FIRST POST!

OKay Everyone, so basically here is the list of weekly assignments that you will be working on this summer. Like we said before, if you want to do more than the minimal requirements, that would be awesome.

If you want to do something different than the assignment that you think would benefit you more than just let me or Lauren know and that may work out too.

I know that everyones probably super busy with work and spending time with your families, but keep in mind that these will only take a little bit of your time.  Most of them can be done in a half hour or less.

Were going to be going in the order that is listed.  So yea.  Just do the work and upload it to your blog.  Then post the link as a reply to each weekly post.  I think thats what we were going to do.... unless Lauren posts otherwise.

Remember to critique and post on people stuff... its kind of important.  : )  Also Ill try to post my submissions right away so you guys have somewhat of an example to go by.

>>Drawing 10 figures from life.  If you have to you can use pictures.

>>CREATE a FLIP BOOK ! Basically the same way that we did in basic animation. Use note cards and one of those Binder clips to just hold it in place.  Either get a video of you flipping it or take pictures/scan in the images individually.

>>Draw 10 figures.... again!

>> Make character designs for three heroes and three villains each with their own story.

>>Watch a good animated film and a poorly animated film.  What made the good one good and the bad one bad.  List at least five specific points.

 >>Draw 10 more figures!  Same Rules!

>>Do 5 detailed landscapes from life.

>> Do 3 different color tests for one character with at least one layer of shadows.

>> Take an object and a lamp.  Turn off all other lights in the room.  Use the lamp to light object from at least three different angles.    Draw the object.  Be detailed when it comes to the shadows and lighter areas.

>>And another 10 figures!

>>Draw a character of your choice in at least three drastically different styles.

>>Pick an artist with a unique style and replicate four of their drawings or characters.

>>Yep, you guessed it! Another 10 people!

>>Find five different artsits that inspire you and post their links.

Thats all!  Not to super difficult!

Now if you REALLY wanna do some hardcore improving you can join me and Lauren in our goal!  We decided we are going to try to do one sketchbook drawing EVERY DAY!  With 80% of the drawings being from life.  This could be anywhere from a 5 minute to a three hour drawing.... but something EVERY DAY.

So. Yea.  Basically.  That. Is. It.

Hope your summers are going super fantastic and hope to see your stuff uploaded soon!

~Steph
